What Equipment Do I Need to Trap a Rat?

If you have discovered a rat inside your home, you are likely wanting to move quickly to get it out. These are terrible animals that can do a lot of damage around your home. This goes beyond just getting into your cereal boxes and bags of rice. These animals can chew apart electrical wiring, and the diseases that they carry can pose a serious risk to you and your family. This is why acting quickly is important. You may find the prospect of using a standard trap to be not very palatable to you. While these can be highly effective, they can also be rather messy. You are looking for a solution which is much better, and here are a few that will help you to trap a rat.

Bucket and Spoon
If you know for sure that the animal is getting onto your counter, then it is time to use a little physics to be able to assist you with this problem. All you need to do is to balance a knife, fork, or spoon over the edge of your counter. At the end dangling over the floor, put some type of bait, like a piece of cheese or some peanut butter. Beneath the utensil, put a bucket or a plastic box that is deep enough that will not allow the rat to climb out. Now just go to sleep. In the morning time, you are likely to find the rat has fallen into your trap and you can simply dispose of it as needed.

Bucket and Cardboard Tube
Working very much like our previous example, you can use the cardboard tube as a way to trap your rat. Dangle the tube over the edge of the counter or other stationary object, like a table. Place your bait at the end of the tube and place a bucket or similar container underneath the end of the tube. As the rat climbs in, the tube will tip over and the rat will fall into your bucket. Easy peasy.

Bucket and Soda Bottle
If you know for sure that the rat is not getting onto your counter, then you need a different option to be able to get it into the bucket. This can be accomplished through the use of your standard soda bottle. Begin by taking a piece of board that is long enough to reach from the floor to the top of the bucket. It should be long enough to create a kind of ramp so that the rat is able to climb up it. Over the bucket itself, take a piece of pipe and run it through the soda bottle. Now, place a piece of peanut butter inside the soda bottle. When the rat climbs in the container to get the peanut butter, it will get trapped, falling into the bucket inside the soda bottle. This will keep it from being able to get out, and then you simply dispose of the rat as needed.

The great thing about these options is that it just requires some standard things you have around your home. You can quickly have that rat problem resolved.
